Latest Industrial Developments in Trichy

Trichy is not only famous for the Rockfort temple, but also for the many industries located in and around the town. Trichy being centrally located is well connected by rail and road to various places like Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore. Major government factories like Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), the Ordnance Factory, and the Heavy Alloy Penetrator Project (HAPP) etc. are located here. Technical institutions like the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) are all located here. Trichy is the engineering hub of central Tamil Nadu.
This place is an important contributor to the country’s steel industry in terms of fabrication. Their MSME’s contribute to almost 60% of India’s steel fabrication industry. The Micro Small and Medium Enterprises federation is a cluster of more than 1000 small and midsized industries. Among their major clients includes BHEL. These industries are a backbone to the steel industry in the country. Most small scale industries are situated in and around Thuvakudi and Mathur. BHEL alone has 500 suppliers in Trichy!
Besides BHEL, Trichy is also popular for the Trichy Distilleries and Chemicals Ltd. The factory manufactures organic chemical materials and salts, besides products like acetic acid, methyl pentenone, etc.
The Srirangam area is the incumbent Chief Minister’s Dr. Jayalalitha’s constituency; hence it can be safely assumed that the entire district of Trichy would assume special significance in terms of industrial growth schemes. Among the major initiatives for Trichy include announcements for an industrial park on 1,077 acres of land near Manapparai. This is likely to attract investments worth Rs. 3000 crores and provide employment to more than 25,000 people. There’s also the GK Industrial Park that’s soon coming up. This industrial park is spread across 600 acres of land with state of the art infrastructural facilities and is likely to benefit thousands of MSMEs in Trichy. With the opening of this park, the fabrication sector is set to become the most important in Asia.
Among industrial products manufactured in Trichy include centrifugal compressors, captive power plants, drive turbines, industrial boilers, waste heat recovery boilers, gas turbines, electrical machines, industrial valves, forgings, electrostatic precipitators, seamless pipes, etc. It is also a major place for oil and gas related machinery. Machines such as onshore drilling equipments, rig electrics are all manufactured here.
